Privacy policy

Your videos stay on your device. This page explains the network services around them.

Who operates FrameCut

Birdlab operates FrameCut. Contact support@birdlab.net for privacy questions. This policy covers the Android app and this information website.

Videos, projects and captions

Video and audio you select through Android’s picker are processed on your device. Draft edits, captions, thumbnails and project references stay in app storage. Editing and speech recognition do not send your media or caption text to a FrameCut server. The app has no user account system.

Exported videos are saved to your device’s media library under Movies / FrameCut. SRT subtitle files are saved to the location you choose. When you use Android Share, the receiving app receives the selected file and applies its own privacy practices. Do not include sensitive information in files you choose to share.

Speech model download

When you first request automatic captions, FrameCut downloads an approximately 60 MB quantized Whisper base model from the public whisper.cpp repository on Hugging Face. Hugging Face and its delivery providers receive your IP address and ordinary network request information. The model request contains no video, voice recording or caption text. FrameCut verifies the file hash, stores the model in its no-backup app directory, and runs transcription locally.

Read the Hugging Face privacy policy for provider processing. Captions may be inaccurate and should be reviewed.

Advertising and consent

FrameCut uses Google AdMob’s Mobile Ads Next-Gen SDK and Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP). Ads are requested only when UMP reports that requests are allowed. FrameCut enables Google restricted data processing for its ad requests by default, limiting certain identifiers and data uses. This does not mean no data is processed. Where applicable, Google’s form presents privacy choices. A Privacy options entry appears in the app when UMP requires it. Editing and exporting do not require you to agree to personalized advertising.

Google’s SDK processes IP/network information (which may indicate approximate location), app/ad interactions, performance diagnostics and device/account identifiers such as advertising ID and app set ID for advertising, measurement and fraud prevention. Data is encrypted in transit. Privacy choices and ad-serving mode can restrict some signals; non-personalized advertising does not mean no processing. Google controls retention of information it receives.

See Google Privacy Policy, Google advertising technologies and Google SDK data disclosure. Advertising-ID controls are available in Android settings where supported.

Retention and deletion

Projects stay in private app storage until deleted or until you clear the app’s data or uninstall it. Android app backup is disabled in FrameCut. The downloaded speech model can be removed by clearing app data or uninstalling. Original files and exports outside app storage remain under your control and may remain after uninstalling.

To withdraw access to imported media, use Android app/media permissions. Removing access or moving original media can make a draft unavailable. Delete shared copies through the service or recipient you used. FrameCut cannot erase copies held by another app.

Children and younger users

FrameCut is a general-purpose editor and is not designed or marketed specifically to children. The app does not ask for a date of birth or promise that it can identify every younger user. If you are below the age at which you can make privacy decisions in your country, involve a parent or guardian. Contact us about a child’s data concern. Google consent and ad controls do not replace parental guidance or guarantee that all ad content is suitable.

Website and support

This website uses Cloudflare to serve static pages. Cloudflare may process IP addresses and request/security metadata to deliver and protect the site; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy. We add no website analytics, advertising scripts, tracking pixels or cookies.

If you email support, we receive your address and the content you send to respond and follow up. Send only the information needed; avoid attaching personal media. You can request deletion of support correspondence, subject to legitimate retention obligations.

Your rights and policy updates

Depending on your location, you may have rights to request access, correction or deletion, object to processing, withdraw consent, or contact a privacy authority. Write to support@birdlab.net; we may need proportionate information to verify a request. For information held directly by Google, Hugging Face, Cloudflare or a receiving app, their policies explain their controls. We update this policy when actual practices change and publish the effective date here.
